Digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are reshaping the world of work, requiring an evolution of both technical and transversal skills.
The report “Artificial Intelligence and the transformation of organizations and work. Challenges and opportunities across eight sectors”, commissioned by Fastweb and developed by EY, highlights the transformative impact of AI on professions and on the technical and soft skills that will be increasingly demanded by the labor market.
Growing demand for specialized technical roles
The adoption of AI is expected to continue driving demand for specialized technical roles: data scientists (+9.1% in the Banking sector), data security experts (+12.1% in ICT), cybersecurity specialists (+12.5% in Banking), and AI engineers (+8.7% in the Communication and Media sector). By 2030, around 75% of jobs will require upskilling or reskilling to keep pace with technological evolution.
More advanced sectors, such as Banking and Insurance, which already integrate AI tools, will see an increase in demand for these specialists of up to +5.8%. Other sectors, such as Healthcare and Public Administration, are expected to follow with a more gradual transformation, driven by the introduction of generative AI.
New transversal skills for effective AI adoption
In addition to technical skills—such as data management and machine learning—the EY study highlights a growing demand for transversal capabilities, including collaboration, adaptability, and critical thinking. These soft skills, together with problem-solving abilities, will be essential for effectively integrating AI within organizations and adapting to rapid changes.
Towards hybrid governance
To maximize AI’s potential, EY identifies three key success factors: hybrid governance that encourages experimentation across departments, targeted training programs for employees, and investments in digital infrastructure and cybersecurity. As emphasized by Walter Renna, CEO of Fastweb, AI progress requires not only technological innovation but also continuous investment in training and in organizational structures capable of supporting its secure adoption.
Opportunities and challenges ahead
With AI set to become increasingly central, companies that invest in training and skills development will be better positioned to compete in a rapidly evolving market. Fingreentech is here to support you on this journey, helping you turn these challenges into growth opportunities, so that your organization is fully prepared to leverage the potential of the ongoing transformation.
